CEPD Applauds President Mahama’s Push for Disability Employment Quota, Free Tertiary Education

The Centre for Employment of Persons with Disabilities (CEPD) has issued a congratulatory message to President John Dramani Mahama, praising his support for a proposed bill that would establish a 5% employment quota for persons with disabilities (PWDs), and for his promise to provide free tertiary education.
The bill, championed by Honorable Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, has been hailed by the CEPD as a “groundbreaking” initiative that signifies a major step forward for inclusivity and equal opportunities in Ghana.
In a press statement, CEPD President Alexander Kojo Tetteh said, “By championing this policy, His Excellency has reaffirmed his dedication to the empowerment and economic independence of persons with disabilities, recognising their invaluable contributions to national development”.
“The introduction of a dedicated employment quota will break long-standing barriers to economic participation, while free tertiary education will provide the knowledge and skills necessary for persons with disabilities to excel in various fields.”
The CEPD has pledged its full support for the government in implementing these policies and expressed its readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to create an enabling environment for PWDs to thrive in education and employment.
The statement further commended the government’s commitment to disability rights and encouraged businesses, civil society organisations, and development partners to embrace the initiative and work together to ensure its success.
“We encourage all stakeholders to embrace this initiative and work collectively towards its successful realisation,” Tetteh stated.
The CEPD believes that this effort will not only improve the lives of PWDs but also strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a leader in disability inclusion and empowerment.
The statement concluded by expressing its gratitude to President Mahama and Hon. Sosu for their dedication to promoting equal opportunities for all and expressing hope for the transformative impact of this initiative on the lives of PWDs across Ghana.
